The Hooker Valley Walk In Mount Cook National Park

5km / 3.1 miles (3hrs return)

The Hooker Valley Walk is one of the most popular walks in Mount Cook National Park, and its easy to understand why. The track starts at the visitor centre and heads  up the Hooker valley towards Aoraki/Mount Cook. You will walk close to the Alpine Memorial which offers a great viewpoint, before you arrive at another  viewing point of the Mueller Glacier and the first swing bridge.

Here, you will cross over the Hooker River, and continue on to the second swing bridge. Keep a look out for a variety of wildflowers that add to the scenery including the Mount Cook Buttercup.

Continue on to a third swing bridge that leads on to the East Hooker and the source of the Hooker River. The walking track reaches it’s end at the glacier lake, where you’re able to enjoy wonderful views of Mount Cook, the Hooker Glacier and the Southwern Alps.

Retrace your steps back to return, heading back down the valley and arriving back at the visitor centre.
