Queenstown

Queenstown is often described as either ‘the Switzerland of the Southern Hemisphere’, or ‘the adventure capital of the world’. Whichever description you prefer, you can be sure you will not be disappointed by a stay in one of the country’s most outstanding and action packed resorts.

Where is Queenstown?

Situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, in the south western, alpine region of the South Island, Queenstown enjoys a backdrop of the jaw-dropping scenic mountain ranges that include The Remarkables, Walter Peak, Cecil Peak and Queesntown Hill.

Explore the Queenstown region

Although known and loved for its adrenaline activities, not everything about Queenstown is fast paced and high energy!  The region has just as much to offer the slower paced, more relaxed holiday maker, from cruising across Lake Wakitipu on the TSS Earnslaw steamship, to kicking back in a vineyard restaurant with a glass of wine to soak up the views or meandering around Queenstown Gardens

Wanaka

A 90 minute drive from Queenstown will lead you to Wanaka – one of our favourite South Island spots and somewhere we think offers a welcome, quieter atmosphere, and some stunning scenery, as well as plenty of similar activities to its adrenaline fuelled neighbour.

Arrowtown

Also nearby is the small picturesque gold rush town of Arrowtown, where you can enjoy wandering down the tree lined streets, exploring the fascinating Chinese Settlement by the river, and even go panning for gold! It’s a breath-taking place to visit in the Autumn when the trees are at their most colourful and there’s a crispness to the air.

Insider Tips

Campbell Read of Chargeabout Bikes says, “If you really want to enjoy the breath-taking scenery of the Queenstown region then head out on a bike along one of Queenstown trails, you can travel at your own pace, take a picnic and leave the tourist melee behind!”
