Built in the 1960’s the Skyline gondola which ascends Bob’s Peak, offers wonderful views of Lake Wakitipu, the Remarkable Mountains, Walter and Cecil Peak. Like Queenstown itself it has grown and grown to become a multi activity centre with bungy jumping, a luge track and Haka entertainment all part of the entertainment complex. Recently a star gazing venture has also started up, but we think the Earth and Sky tours offered at Lake Tekapo are better.
It’s well worth going up just for the spectacular views from the extensive viewing platform but we would also recommend the buffet meal in the Skyline restaurant– a great meal, accompanied by some wonderful panoramic views across the mountain ranges.
What our travellers enjoyed about The Skyline Gondola…
- Sipping New Zealand wines and taking in the views through the restaurant windows
- Enjoying an exhilarating luge ride
- Watching the steamship, TSS Earnslaw make its way across the lake to Walter Peak station
