Silver Fern Holidays Covid-19 Promise

New Zealand is a role model for the rest of the world for the way it is dealing with the pandemic. When international travellers are able to visit New Zealand, there is no doubt it will be one of the safest destinations to enjoy an amazing holiday.

However, in the meantime we understand that travellers are cautious about booking a trip to New Zealand not only because of health concerns, but the financial commitment that a ‘trip of a lifetime’ means.

That is why we are introducing our Covid-19 Promise

Book with Confidence

Once you have booked, you can relax about everything until 10 weeks prior to departure, when your balance is due.

At that point, if you still have concerns about Covid-19 and feel unable to travel you may:

  • Postpone your trip with us to a future date as far in advance as 31 Dec 2023
  • Or Cancel outright and receive a full refund for your the land arrangements

Important note : Refund policies from airlines may differ depending on the carrier and what class of seat you purchase. As always, please ask our advice.

If after paying your balance, you are subsequently advised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (or your respective government department) that you are not allowed to travel to New Zealand (or a stopover destination) or the New Zealand government prohibits entry your monies will be refunded in full by Silver Fern Holidays .

If you are not able to travel through illness or other unforseen event then you should reclaim your monies through your Travel insurance. Our suggestion would be to consider the Gold Plus Insurance offered by Holiday Extras.

Travel with Confidence

Our Hamilton office on North Island monitors New Zealand’s Covid-19 situation on a daily basis so that we can comply with all national and local regulations that may be in place when you travel.

For Pure Discoveries Small Group Tours we use our own vehicles so we have complete control when it comes to implementing safety and hygiene practices.

For all holidays, our close relationships with accommodation providers, car rental agencies, activity operators and local guides mean we work together to safely welcome you.

If you have any questions about your travel plans to New Zealand please get in touch with the Silver Fern Holidays team on 01636 813544 or email

Christchurch Update

On 15 March 2019 (NZT), a mass shooting occurred in Christchurch, New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister has condemned the act of violence against innocent people and has described this as one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”. New Zealand’s national threat level has for the first time been lifted to high which triggers a number of actions to help keep people safe, such as increased aviation and border security. This includes additional security screening at Christchurch Airport.

Magnificent Doubtful Sound

A cruise out on the magnificent Doubtful Sound is an incredible experience and one that you won't want to miss on a trip to new Zealand

We're not sure quite how we could describe it adequately– even the first explorers got it wrong and incorrectly named it a Sound – which is a river-fed waterway, when in fact it is a Fiord, since it is a glacier-fed expanse of water. Anyway, who cares about the names – the fact is a trip out on one of the worlds most beautiful stretches of water is truly unforgettable.
