Taupo Tandem Skydiving

It’s definitely not everyone’s idea of an ideal way to spend an afternoon, but for those who enjoy heart stopping, adrenaline fuelled adventure a skydive over Lake Taupo is an experience not to be missed! With more than 3000 jumps taking place every year, we’re clearly not the only ones that think so!

After meeting your experienced tandem master and having your briefing, your trip starts with a scenic flight over the central plateau, where you really can take in the spectacular views down over the Southern Hemispheres largest lake, and across over to the volcanic peaks of Mount Tongariro as the plane and your excitement climb up higher and higher.

The scenery will take on a completely different view from 15,000 feet, thought when you’re falling at a rate of 200km per hour, we’re not sure you’ll have your eyes open to appreciate it!

Once your parachute opens at 5000 feet you’ll be able to enjoy the views, and really marvel in it all as your tandem instructor guides you smoothly back down to earth.

It’s an adventure that’s definitely not for the faint hearted, and although we have to admit we’ve always been the ones on the ground cheering as everyone returns safely to terra firma, the huge ear to ear smiles on skydivers faces when they land almost convince us that it’s something we’ll try one day!
