Waiheke Island
Waiheke Island is just off the Auckland coast boasts 92 square kilometres of beautiful beaches, vineyards, olive groves, native bush and laid back seaside villages. It’s a great day out from Auckland and offers a relaxing break away from the city.
A good way to make the most of a day trip is to combine your ferry ticket with a coach explorer tour. The ferry departs from Auckland City Ferry Terminal on the hour from 9 am to 5 pm and the ferry crossing is about 40 minutes.
The Waiheke Explorer tour lasts approximately two hours and covers the main sites on the island including a morning coffee stop at Onetangi beach, one of the best swimming beaches on the island The tour concludes at Oneroa Bay , the main town ,where you’ll find a range of shops and restaurants and a walkway down to the beach.
Your coach ticket is valid for any of the buses on the island and you can take one the short distance back to the ferry terminal for your return trip.
Wine enthusiasts can book onto a vineyard tour which visits the leading wineries on the island and includes return ferry travel.
