A Silver Fern tailor-made holiday is a holiday designed entirely around you. Our friendly, experienced team will work with you to understand where in New Zealand you’re most interested in visiting and then plan a holiday itinerary that’s perfect for you. Of course, we’ll also use our extensive knowledge of New Zealand to suggest some hidden gems along the way that we think you’ll love, which you may wish to include – ensuring you have a truly unforgettable trip.

Ideally you should plan for three to four weeks in New Zealand if you wish to see most of the highlights at a sensible pace.

Bear in mind New Zealand is the same size as the U.K and you don’t want to be constantly on the move.

If you are restricted by time, consider an internal flight, Rotorua to Nelson, Christchurch or Queenstown or vice versa would be a good option.

We include all your accommodation on a Bed and Breakfast basis, all your transport and those activities you would not be able to participate in unless we pre-booked them for you. If you have any special requests, we can also book them.

You certainly can. If you are using the Coastal Pacific train from Picton or Blenheim to Christchurch, leave your North Island rental car at the Wellington depot and collect another in Christchurch or Greymouth to continue your exploration of the South Island.

If you are travelling on the Tranzalpine from Christchurch to Greymouth, leave your car in Christchurch and collect another in Greymouth.

Our preferred rental car supplier is Avis / Budget. Their fleet of vehicles are all automatic and do not have integrated sat nav’s (this may change in the future) so you should have Google or Apple Maps downloaded to your phone.

Indeed, you can. There are clear directions to the ferry terminal. Follow instructions from the crew as to where to park on the ferry and then head up to the lounge for a coffee.

Petrol (gasoline) prices fluctuate, but as of late 2024, regular petrol was around NZ$2.55 per litre. Premium petrol averaged around NZ$2.74 per litre. These prices are averages and can vary by region and retailer.
