New Zealand Holidays 2022

With pent up demand for a memorable holiday fast becoming apparent, we’re confident that tours of New Zealand in 2022 will be high on many people’s wish-lists.

Our prediction of a heightened demand for New Zealand holidays in 2022 is based on the fact that very few accommodation or activity providers are offering any discounts or inducements to book, particularly in the peak Summer months. We are also experiencing a high level of enquiries for dates in 2022.

Our advice would be register your interest with us now. That way, we can monitor developments in New Zealand on your behalf. As always, we aim to offer you the best value New Zealand holiday available – personalised, supported and guaranteed.

Our Silver Fern office in Hamilton, North Island is regularly in touch with the New Zealand Tourism authorities and we’ll always keep you in the loop on the travel and holiday front. We provide updates from the mainstream media, but to be sure you’re on the inside track, why not put us on your e-mail list?

Whilst airline departure information for 2022 may not be available yet, we can place reservations for accommodations and activities now.

What’s Happening in New Zealand in 2022?

As usual, you can look forward to a packed lineup of events running throughout the year – and we imagine, with the easing of travel restrictions and the loss of international events in 2021, 2022 is set to be a big one. Festival organisers, activity providers and event managers will be going out of their way to make up for lost revenue by putting on extra attractions for you to enjoy.

We’ll do our best to incorporate any event that you’d like to attend into your tailor-made itinerary or as an add-on to your small group tour. We’ve listed some of the main festivals scheduled for 2022 below, but do remember it’s often the more local activities – a barbecue on the back lawn, a dance at the village hall or wine tasting at the vineyard- that you’ll probably enjoy the most… so don’t forget to leave time for those!

New Zealand Events 2022
25 Feb – 20 March: New Zealand Festival of the Arts, Christchurch.
16 Feb – 20 Feb: Napier Art Deco Festival, Napier.
February: New Zealand’s International Chamber Music Festival, Nelson.
15 – 17 Feb: Pinot Noir New Zealand, Christchurch.
15 – 17 April: Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow, Wanaka. (Always very popular, so it’s best to book early!)

The Pacific Summer in New Zealand – Dec to March 2022

Yes, this is going to be the season in demand – it’s likely to be the first summer that New Zealand will be open for international travellers to enjoy the Pacific sunshine, so there’ll be a heavy demand for accommodations and activities during this period.

Oh and what a joy it is to surf those waves off the beaches of the beautiful Coromandel, to head out on a cruise through the Bay Of Islands where you can drop anchor for a swim in the warm waters and spot dolphins from your boat’s foredeck. You can sing full voice with a Maori choir, you can trail walk across some of the most geologically unique terrains in the world, and of course come face to face with the highest mountain in the Southern Hemisphere, Aoraki/Mount Cook… it really is spectacular!

All this while you catch a glimpse of international paper headlines and feel smug about being away from the winter in Europe. We know all our accommodation hosts will be looking forward to meeting you and offering you the best in Kiwi hospitality. They’ll provide you with all the up to date information about activities in their area to supplement that which we provide in our Silver Fern Holidays Insider Tips Guide, which is exclusive to all our travellers.

The long summer days and temperatures of 17-24 degrees are ideal for the many outdoor activities on offer.

Do bear in mind that not only are travellers in Europe intent on heading to the Southern Hemisphere during this period, but many Asian visitors choose to visit New Zealand in February during the Chinese New Year, too. Demand for accommodation in the popular locations is always high and consequently, you may find it more expensive to travel during these months than in the low or shoulder seasons.

The Pacific Spring in New Zealand – Sept to Dec 2022

The Pacific spring is probably our favourite time to travel to New Zealand.

There are not as many travellers on the road, all the spring flowers are out with flocks of wader birds returning to the wetlands and coastal areas from other climes. The lupins will be out around Aoraki/Mount Cook, new lambs are in the fields and there’s still a dusting of snow on the mountain tops to give your photographs that extra touch of wow.

We generally recommend at least two-nights in most locations. This allows you to break up the driving and gives you an opportunity to explore the local area with a coach excursion or a trip on one of New Zealand’s incredible railroads – You can either track down the east coast of the South Island on the Coastal Pacific Train from Picton to Christchurch, or venture across the Southern Alps on the Tranz Alpine train… both journeys are sure to take your breath away!

Thinking of planning an independent trip? Why not take a look at our tailor-made New Zealand holiday suggestions. They’re a great starting point and will provide you with lots of inspiration and give you plenty of ideas on where to visit and what to do. When you’ve picked out some ideas, feel free to give us a call and we can put together a personalised holiday experience for you!

This could also include a small group tour for part of your holiday. If you’d like to travel through both islands under the guidance of one of our expert drivers, our Kauri and Pohutukawa tours are a fantastic way to get all of the insider info on New Zealand.
