Car Rental

Driving around New Zealand is easy. The country is compact, the scenery changes dramatically over relatively short distances so there’s always something new to marvel at, and often, the only traffic jams you’re likely to encounter are those caused by wayward sheep!

As an example, the drive from Auckland to Rotorua on North Island is only 3 ½ hours and on South Island you can travel from Franz Josef through to Wanaka on the West Coast in 4 hours. Often, you may well find that your one of only a few vehicles on the road, a pleasant change after the usual motorway hold ups in the UK!

For more driving information, download the Silver Fern map and driving distances chart.

We usually recommend as a minimum specification, vehicles with a 1.6 litre engine and good boot space (with auto or manual drive according to preference).  We’ve built great relationships with  reputable local companies over the years and our rates are as competitive as any you’ll find elsewhere.

One important piece of information to note is that If you are undertaking any of the New Zealand Great Walks we will organise vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs so that you are not paying rental charges whilst on the track walk.

Our top tip is to purchase excess liability insurance in the UK rather than in New Zealand.  You’ll make a considerable saving, particularly on hire periods of 14 days or more.
