Five Rivers Retreat

Five Rivers Retreat couldn’t feel much more rural, surrounded by working farmland and its namesake rivers, yet it is less than an hour’s drive to Queenstown, one of New Zealand’s busiest playgrounds, as well as the small towns of Invercargill, and Te Anau, the gateway for cruises to the world famous Milford Sound.

Hosts Paula and Roger love to spoil their guests, and whether your idea of a great stay involves a fantastic breakfast, or a tour of the farm with its collection of animals, they’ll ensure you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

With dozens of options for anglers nearby, Roger is keen to share his interest in fly-fishing and is well-placed to recommend knowledgeable local guides for a trip out on the water.

What our travellers love about staying here…

  • Walking up “the hill” in the back garden for spectacular views of the surrounding Southland landscape.
  • Exploring the tiny nearby settlements of Five Rivers Station and Lumsden for a slice of “real” Kiwi life.
  • Deciding between the rustic Tuscany Room, warmly decorated and boasting its own clawfoot bath, and the Pacifica Room, where comfortable furnishings are complimented by its traditional Pacific art.
