New Zealand Holidays 2021

New Zealand Holidays 2021

With ongoing travel restrictions in place for international travel this year, we’re now looking to 2021 travel with regards to the opening of New Zealand’s borders. As to precisely which month this will take place will be dependent on a number of factors, primarily the success or otherwise of trans-Tasman travel and the introduction of a vaccination programme to eliminate the coronavirus.

So, with crystal ball in hand we think there is still a slight chance of a New Zealand Holiday in 2021 during the late March period. A much better bet will be holidays next season in the Pacific Spring months of late September, October and November onwards.
Taking these assumptions on board, we’re going to give more focus to the latter part of next year in our summary of New Zealand Holiday ideas for 2021…

The Pacific Summer in New Zealand – Dec to March 2021

Keen to book a last-minute trip to blow the cobwebs off your passport? This time of year is always great for escaping British winter. You can trade in the wet and soggy drudgery for clear, sunny days on the beaches of the Coromandel, the geological wonders of the North Island or the Abel Tasman National Park in the South Island. If you’re all about staying active, there are a number of beautiful walking trails aside the beautiful lakes of Wanaka and Wakatipu in the deeper South that are sure to take your breath away.

We have to say, there’s something quite magical about sitting out on the sundeck or lawn of one of our selected accommodations, glass in hand, gazing out at the dark night sky in conversation with your hosts or other travellers. Dining al fresco is a delight and we’ve many super restaurant recommendations in the Silver Fern Holidays Insider Tips Guide, which we provide to all our travellers.

The long summer days and temperatures of 17-24 degrees are certainly ideal for the many outdoor activities on offer, too.

It is worth noting that not only are travellers from Europe intent on heading to the Southern Hemisphere during this period, but many Asian visitors choose February to visit New Zealand during the Chinese New Year, too. This can mean that demand for accommodation in the popular locations is high and consequently, you may find it more expensive to travel during these months than in the low or shoulder seasons.

The Pacific Spring in New Zealand – Sept to Dec 2021

The Pacific Spring is probably our favourite time to visit and as we indicated in our introduction, it’s a safer bet that restrictions will have been lifted by this time and New Zealand travel in 2021 will be all systems go.

You can be out on those wide-open roads, leaving the city behind, to marvel at the stunning natural scenery you’ll pass through. Freshly “Spring- minted” with stops along the way for picnics and chats with the locals – it really is the perfect way to leave the world and all its problems behind!

The lupins will be out around Aoraki/Mount Cook, new lambs are in the fields and there’s still a dusting of snow on the mountain tops to add some lustre to your photographs. We generally advise Silver Fern travellers to have two-night stays in most locations. That way, you’re not rushing your trip and it affords the perfect opportunity to break up the driving with a local coach excursion or a trip on one of New Zealand’s great rail journeys. The East Coast of the South Island on the Coastal Pacific from Picton to Christchurch, and the Southern Alps crossing on the Tranz Alpine offer some of the most incredible scenic rail tours you could imagine.

A good starting point when planning an independent trip, is to take a look at our tailor-made New Zealand holiday suggestions. If that gets your travel juices flowing and you’re itching to visit New Zealand more than ever (we’re certain you will be), just give us a call and we can help you put together a completely personalised holiday.

Fancy meeting some like-minded people on your 2021 New Zealand holiday? You could also include a small group tour as part of your trip. Alternatively, if you’d like to travel through both islands under the guidance of one of our expert drivers, then the Kauri and the Pohutakawa Pure Discoveries are the tours for you.
