Walking the North York Moors

The North York Moors comprise England's largest unbroken tract of heather moor; a carpet of warm purple, interrupted only green valleys of rural calm. To the East the high cliffs of the North Sea coast offer outstanding coastal walking to quaint fishing villages such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay. Itinerary Highlights

Enjoy the contrasting moorland and coastal scenery of the North York Moors National Park with the choice of up to four different guided walks each day.
Half-Day Walks: Leisurely walks cover the spectacular coastline and old fishing villages. These include the historic Whitby Abbey and the old cobbled streets and harbour of the town. The walks finish after a picnic lunch for an early afternoon return to Larpool Hall.
Easier Walks: Many of the area’s highlights can be appreciated on the easier walks. Options include an exploration of “Heartbeat” country on walks around Goathland, and visits to the peaceful villages of the Esk Valley. We can also savour the sea views as we follow the coast path to Robin Hood’s Bay, or around the beautiful headland of Kettleness.
Medium Walks: Head a little further off the beaten track to discover some of the national park’s hidden corners. Our walks may take us over the purple moorland of Blakey Ridge to charming Hutton-le-Hole, or along the ancient stone-paved footpaths on the Esk Valley Way. We can also follow the coastal path from the once-thriving fishing port of Staithes around the sweeping arc of Runswick Bay, or enjoy bracing cliff-top walks from the iconic ruins of Whitby Abbey.
Harder Walks: The harder walks offer opportunities for some superb longer routes. On the coast we can tackle the spectacular stretches from Boulby to Sandsend and from Ravenscar to Whitby. Panoramic views can also be enjoyed on walks to landmarks such as the Wainstones and Roseberry
Topping, or through the heart of the moor to the Hole of Horcum.

This holiday, which is operated in association with Holiday Fellowship, can be combined with any of our other UK itineraries and / or linked to a city break in London or Edinburgh. The nearest airport entry point is Manchester.
