South of Innsbruck, in the heart of the Tyrol, lies the Stubai, one of the most justly famous mountain regions of Austria. This is an area of spectacular scenery, with many peaks over three thousand metres. Telfes is a small, peaceful and picturesque village, lying on a sunny plateau above the valley floor. The village offers easy access to the outstanding walking areas of the Stubai and is situated at the start of a large range of walks.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Ramble in the Alpine meadows of the Telferweisen with their magnificent display of summer flowers and discover the beautiful waterfalls of the high Stubai range.
  • Cross the valley from Telfes and follow the former pilgrimage route to the monastery of Maria Waldrast. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Dolomitic Sonnentein buttresses which tower over the entrance to the Stubai Valley.
  • Ascend the famous peaks of Elferspitze (2505 metres) and Serles (2718 metres). Having marvelled at the panoramic views take a refreshment break at a mountain refuge before descending back to the valley below.
  • Walk along the aptly named Panoramaweg above the Pinnistal Valley. Habicht, Kirche Dachspitze and other peaks of the Serles Kamm are revealed as you make your way along this gloriously situated footpath.
  • Take the mountain railway which winds its way down to Innsbruck and explore the fascinating town centre and shops.
  • Relax in the peaceful garden of the hotel or visit the local open air swimming pool.
