United Kingdom
United Kingdom  by Lois Hipkiss,  Silver Fern Holidays – Regional Expert

The days of Empire may be long past, but the legacy of its illustrious heritage dominates the landscapes, cities and villages of the United Kingdom. From Hadrian’s Wall in the North through the magnificent mountains of the Lake District, the wild moors of Yorkshire and the pastoral countryside of the Cotswolds to the ‘Lorna Doone’ valleys of Devon and sweeping coastlines of Cornwall and Pembrokeshire, there lie ancient rights of way which reveal a treasure trove of trails for today’s visitor to discover a land of stunning variety and interest.

Starting from the main air gateway cities of London, Edinburgh, Manchester or Birmingham, your itinerary might encompass the highlights of Great Britain on 7-14 day programmes or an in-depth look at a particular region or location. Either way, all our travel itineraries in the UK aim to offer a good balance of visiting the well-known sites as well as taking you to lesser known local gems.

We advise getting off the main highways to explore the country lanes, villages and market towns that are the essence of this ‘green and fair’ land. Better still combine a short tour or city break with a walking trail or short pedal through the countryside to really enjoy Britain at its best. As usual, the advice is to try to avoid the busy bank holidays and key school holiday dates. There are too many holiday combinations and travel possibilities in the UK for us to list them all, so if your particular holiday idea or itinerary is not featured, do please give us a call, we’d be delighted to help.
